Stockholm, September 24th 2007 – Today LaCie premieres its new LaCie silverscreen, a large-capacity multimedia hard drive with the ability to plug directly into television sets for instant playback of stored movies, music or photos. LaCie silverscreen is ideal for people who want to enjoy their digital entertainment collections without a computer. The quiet black drive comes in 320GB and 500GB capacities.

“The LaCie silverscreen is an excellent value for the vast majority of people with extensive libraries of digital entertainment content. This product provides easy playback of the most popular audio and video formats,” said Salem Tirane, LaCie Multimedia Product Manager. “The high capacity and intuitive interface puts entire libraries of digital music, movies and photos at users’ fingertips from the comfort of the living room.”

The LaCie silverscreen is designed to instantly play back a wide range of movie, music and picture file formats, including the popular compressed DivX®, JPEG and MP3 formats. After uploading multimedia from any PC or Mac through the USB interface, LaCie silverscreen creates a home theater experience with surround sound thanks to the optical digital output that supports compressed Dolby® Digital 5.1. A handy remote control is included for easy menu surfing and playback. The LaCie silverscreen is also capable of upscaling video content to high-definition TV displays via its optional component cable. The DivX-certified LaCie silverscreen ensures solid compatibility with the preferred movie sharing format.

The LaCie silverscreen stores up to 500 DivX® movies, 160,000 MP3s, or 500,000 photos**.

*1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Total accessible capacity varies depending upon operating environment (typically 10–15% less).
**Calculations are based on 900MB per MPEG-4 (DivX®) movie, 1MB per JPEG photo file, and 3MB per MP3 song. These values often vary.
